Gone Dogs is a book written by dog lovers, for dog lovers. I'm happy to be a part of this project, where I contribute my story, "The Wonder of Dogs," about my beloved soulmate pup, Jasper (pictured here).
From their site:
Here in the US, we share our homes with over 70 million dogs. That’s about one dog for every four people. It’s like dogs are an extension of the family. Because they are. There’s a reason they’re called “man’s best friend.” And due to the length of a dog’s life, nearly every person who owns a dog will outlive it.
Anyone who has ever gone through it knows that saying goodbye to a dog is hard. The spiritual bonds we have with them are unlike any other; based entirely on unconditional love and unwavering loyalty.
Born from a blog post in 2010, Gone Dogs is a tribute to the dogs that have left us, written by the people who loved them. When it’s finished, Gone Dogs will be a beautiful coffee table book chock full of stories and photographs from people across the world who chose to share their tributes to dogs they feel blessed to have known.
I'm currently working on a guide to surviving endometriosis. If you're interested in submitting your story to potentially be included, please contact me. More will be coming soon! For now you can check out the resources on the advocacy page for useful information.
EDITORIAL SERVICES
I've worked in publishing for almost two decades. More than half of that has been as an acquisitions editor where I've reviewed countless proposals and supported authors through the development of 200+ books. I'm also an author myself! If you're looking for support in creating your own proposal or would like to have a seasoned eye guide you through a round of developmental editing, please be in touch to see if I'm currently available and if we might be a good match in working together to support your dreams.
PROPOSAL PREP
If you have a book idea and want to present it to a publisher or agent for consideration, you'll need to put together a proposal. If you aren't sure where to begin or want someone to look over what you have to make sure it's polished and ready to go, I can help!
FEES
Hourly: $50
Per Word: $.05
Proposal prep is done on an hourly rate.
For developmental editing, I charge a per-word rate, but I track my hours as well. If the hourly rate ends up being less costly to you, I charge that rate instead.
DEVELOPMENTAL EDITING
If you have a draft of your book all ready to go, but want another set of eyes to review it for additional feedback to make sure it's the best it can be, I can help here, too! This is my passion and where I really love to dig into things with authors.
To clarify, this service is not copy editing, where grammar and fine details are being corrected. Developmental editing is more about the overall structure, making sure the outline is naturally organized and flows well, that you are hitting your audience with the right tone, that you are keeping up a steady pace and not getting bogged down in certain spots, etc. It's guidance like, "move this section here, cut this paragraph, add in a story here, this part was confusing, tell the reader more about this detail."
I welcome both fiction and non-fiction.
